What to see, what to do, what to visit in Morocco?

The answer varies depending on many things, and the first period of the year. Visit the desert in summer is difficult (even the Moroccans try to avoid it, and those who live out there are hiding in the shade during the day), but even in the south, there are things to do, from we are going in the mountains, the temperature is pleasant, whether in the Todra Gorge or Dades, or above, in the Middle Atlas, Ifrane to.

Conversely, winter can be cold and wet in Casablanca and the Moroccan mountains often see snow. Ouarzazate Oujda are cold, and even in the Dades, despite a superb sun, the nights are cool. It's the right season for trekking in the desert, spring will be one for mountain trekking.

Some places are accessible only by trail, so 4x4. Track or road, the distances traveled more slowly, it is necessary, apart from the highways, after an average of 70 km / hour on the road, 20-30 on the track. So plan a reasonable distance circuits, to have time to enjoy your visits.

Our favorite places :

At the corner of a valley, a few kilometers of a road between two "mandatory" steps for large operators turn it worth the time of discovery ...

- Jebel Zireg, a mountain silted :

In the south of Morocco, near the border with Algeria, Jebel Zireg is a huge mountain of black shale impressive. It is almost entirely covered with red sand. When seen in the distance, we can not imagine its size. There is nothing, no bush, no benchmark. So the method of "red jacket" on circulation (Yann Arthus-Bertrand, always have an assistant with a red jacket and drop it onto the place of a picture and give an idea of the dimension). In this case, Bilal and blue djellaba. And it does not work ... because in a picture that gives a view of Jebel ... man is so small that it is invisible!

- Tazzarine et la hamada du Draa :

Tazzarine our village on the edge of the desert, between the last palm groves and arid regs an abrupt and severe desert. But at the heart of the medina, behind the walls of adobe, hide vibrant gardens, bougainvillea, hibiscus, orange trees, date palms, fields of henna ... and in Hamada, natural oases dotting the desert surprising green islands. A few hours of walking or Serdrar Timganine, Aït Atmane dam in a region where the fossils are shoveled and where shooting stars animate the sky, it's the perfect place to experience the desert life, with the last nomadic Ait Atta.

- Goulmima, the oasis ponds :

Ksar Goulmima aptly named. Anchored in a cove off Gheris is one of the most beautiful palm plantations in the South. Its name is an Arabization of the Berber Iguelmimene, meaning "lake", and plenty of water because of the walk through the gardens and olive groves delightful. Goulmima is also home to a Berber association, which seeks to preserve its heritage, and restore a Ksar "Ighrem not Igoulmimen", "the fortress of the lakes." A little away from the usual tourist routes in the south, it is a city worth visiting.

- Tinmel prideful mosque :

A few kilometers from Marrakech, in the valley of the N'fis in territory Gondafa the Tinmel mosque stands on a hill, surrounded by two defensive kasbah. It was the eagle of the Mahdi, whose heir became sultan of Morocco nest. The mosque was restored with the help of Unesco, and it is a marvel of Islamic architecture stripped. It recalls the beautiful austerity of Romanesque churches, with the same types of simple floral decorations, and a forest of arches that formed the prayer hall, and are now in the open. En route to the Tizi or n'Test Taroudant, it can be visited easily.

- Casablanca secret :

There are other things to see in Casablanca the Hassan II mosque. The economic capital has little to offer at first glance, no ancient palaces like Fez, Marrakech as no gardens, a hectic and polluted modern life. There must be a mistake. The white city has an architectural heritage remarkable Art Nouveau, which is finally beginning to be recognized and restored. Some iconic buildings were bought in, reclaimed. A visit to Casablanca will allow you to admire.

In the next issue we will talk about each tourist cities in Morocco
